Frombork: A unique stamp with the image of Nicolaus Copernicus solemnly put into circulation

Poczta Polska, in cooperation with the Museum of the History Monument "Frombork - Cathedral Team", has today introduced a postage stamp dedicated to this year's jubilee of Nicolaus Copernicus. The stamp has the image of an outstanding astronomer and canon, based on a portrait, located in an epitaph in the cathedral basilica in Frombork.

The value was presented in the Bishop Palace from Frombors during the 500th anniversary of entrusting canon to Mikołaj Copernicus to the Administrator of the Diocese of Warmia Sede Vacante by the Warmian Cathedral Chapter.

The solemn presentation was attended by, among others: Andrzej Śliwka - Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of State Asset, Małgorzata Kopiczko - Senator of the Republic of Poland, Fr. Józef Górzyński-Archbishop of the Warmian metropolitan, Gustaw Marek Brzezin-Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Andrzej B. Piotrowicz-President of the Board of the Pomeranian Association of Wspólna Europe, priest. prof. dr hab. Andrzej Kopiczko and Krzysztof Falkowski - President of the Board of Poczta Polska.

- Mikołaj Kopernik is one of the most famous Poles in the world. His discoveries can easily be called breakthrough for humanity. It should not be surprising, therefore, that Poczta Polska, which commemorates important characters or events, did not forget about the equal anniversary of the birth of our outstanding astronomer and canon. This year, Mikołaj Copernicus will be devoted to three unique issues - two stamps and an envelope with a printed postmark sign. I am convinced that our publishers will contribute to the popularization of knowledge about our outstanding astronomy and clergy - emphasizes Krzysztof Falkowski, president of the board of Poczta Polska.

The portrait of Nicolaus Copernicus, which was used for the stamp project, is an element of the Frombork epitaph from the archcathedral basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint. Andrzej. He was painted with an oil technique on a copper plate according to the designs of astronomer images from the works of Mikołaj Reussner and Jakub Boissard. It has great artistic value because it is the only preserved image of Nicolaus Copernicus in Frombork - a city of the most creative period of the Polish explorer and the last years of his life.
