Patron of Poland on the postage stamp
Polish history told with postage stamps. On Saturday, May 8 this year, Poczta Polska will introduce the fourth stamp from the "Patrons of Poland" series. This year's broadcast commemorates the figure of the Saint Bishop Martyr - Stanisław from Szczepanów.
The author of the project, Bożydar Grozdew, presented the image of Saint Stanisław from Szczepanów and a plant decorative motif with an eagle in the crown. In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska has published, in a limited version, the FDC envelope, i.e. an envelope on the first day of circulation. It presents a pond in the sanctuary of the martyrdom of St. Stanisław on Skałka.
- Everyone knows that Saint. Stanisław Biskup is the patron of Poland, but few know his character and activity well, and even less know the causes of his disgust with the king and as a result of martyrdom. Polska know this steadfast human faith and human deeds .
Saint Stanisław from Szczepanów came from a deeply believing family. At the age of 25, he was ordained a priest. He ran a cathedral school, a library and preached. Already then he drew the attention of Prince Bolesław II Szczodry, later King, who soon appointed him the bishop. Initially, Stanisław advised Bolesław on state matters, he witnessed his coronation on the king of Poland , but after numerous wars and skirmishes for the earth both fell into conflict. Bishop Stanisław admonished him from the pulpit, and the king in retaliation called him a traitor, which only tightened the conflict.
On April 11, 1079, Bishop Stanisław was murdered by King Bolesław II Szczodry while celebrating the Holy Mass. For the murder of the episcopal, Bolesław lost the crown, and the people turned away from him. Rome deprived Polish king of the title of Christian ruler.
The remains of the bishop were buried in the church in Skałka, and after 10 years in the solemn procession they were moved to the Wawel cathedral. The saint is treated as the patron of the union of broken and quarrelsome Polish Piasts. For centuries he was a symbol of resistance to tyranny.
This is the fourth publishing house from the series " Patrons of Poland ". In 2018, the company introduced a postage stamp with the image of Saint Stanisław Kostka, and in 2019 a value commemorating Saint Wojciech.
