Poczta Polska issued a postage stamp on the 100th birthday of Saint John Paul II
On Friday, October 16 this year, on Papal Day, Poczta Polska introduces the postage stamp with a tag of the emission "100. Anniversary of the birth of Saint John Paul II. " This is another joint initiative of Poland and the Vatican as part of philatelic publications.
The author of the project, Agnieszka Sobczyńska, presented on the stamp the image of Saint John Paul II in a halo, against the background of the decorative element - a fragment of the embroidery of the sister of Lucia Dos Santos (Portuguese monk, witness of the Marian apparitions in Fátim in 1917). In the lower left corner of the tag to the stamp there is an inscription 100, inscribed in the papal coat of arms - two keys. The tap appears in three graphic versions and presents: Karol Wojtyła with her mother; Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, Primate of Poland and Cardinal Karol Wojtyła and the last - Pope John Paul II in St. Piotr in Rome.
- From the very beginning of the pontificate of the Polish Pope, Poczta Polska honored him with their publishing houses and thus propagated his teaching. These were philatelic values showing the Polish pope against the background of historical events, against the background of the history of Poland, Europe and the world. In these publishers he also led us with his teaching. And we tried to make our stamps a symbol of deep respect and thanks for the years of his priestly service and were a kind of compendium of the life of a great Pole against his homeland. After the departure of John Paul II, our publications not only express our longing and attachment, but also hope that the teaching of Saint John Paul II is and will continue to be in the hearts of their countrymen. That we will cultivate his legacy, promote his teaching and new generations of Poles will meet him and also love his wise words - said Mariusz Dawid, director of the Poczta Polska Filatelist office.
In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska has published, in a limited version, the FDC envelope, i.e. an envelope on the first day of circulation. It shows a photo of young Karol Wojtyła from the collections of the Museum House of the Holy Father John Paul II Family and one of the quotes of the Polish Pope.
This is the second stamp this year commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Saint John Paul II. In May, a value released together with Slovak Poczta came into circulation. It presents Pope John Paul II against the background of his family home in Wadowice. On the other hand, there were silhouettes of the Polish Pope and Slovak Cardinal Jan Chrysostom Korec, during the pilgrimage of John Paul II to Slovakia, which took place in 1995.
