We remind the character of the great Cyprian Kamil Norwid on the stamp
The 200th anniversary of the birth recognized as the fourth national prophet of the Romantic era, an outstanding poet, Cyprian Kamil Norwid was commemorated by Poczta Polska in exceptional philatelic.
The biography and contemporary position of Cyprian Kamil Norwid were a challenge for Jarosław Ochaddzan, author of the stamp project. He presented the colorful image of an outstanding poet made in the woodwork technique by Józef Łoskoczyński. At the bottom of the stamp he placed the name of the emission "200. Anniversary of the birth of Cyprian Kamil Norwid ”, and in the lower left corner the designation: PLN 3.30 and inscription: Poland. On the FDC envelope there was a fragment of the writer's manuscript, and his handwritten signature on the date.
- The anniversary of this unique poet celebrated this year has become a contribution to reminding his contemporary life and achievements. We wanted to bring our latest emission to the era and climate that shaped his genius. The woodcut shown on the stamp with the image of Norwid shows some mystery that surrounded him. And although a lot has already been written about Norwid - and for the full understanding of his phenomenon it is necessary to communicate with his art - I believe that our emission will be an impulse to discover it again - says the vice president of Poczta Polska Wiesław Włodek.
Cyprian Kamil Norwid is considered a special artist. He was engaged in many fields of art, he was a poet, prose writer, playwright, sculptor, painter and cartoonist. His works were only discovered 14 years after his death. As a creator misunderstood and thus unknown, after struggling with tuberculosis and other diseases - he died in poverty in the shelter of St. Kazimierz. Before he settled in Paris as an emigrant, he wandered around Europe and even reached New York.
