Happy package? Be careful, it could be a scam

Phishing is one of the most popular methods of internet fraud, which involves impersonating institutions, companies or people to extort confidential information, e.g. personal data, authenticating data to bank accounts or social networking sites.

Fraudsters send fake messages (e-mail, SMS, social media, sales platforms) that look like official messages from banks, online stores or other institutions. These messages contain links to fake websites that look like original websites, but in fact they are controlled by fraudsters.

One example of the phishing action are SMS messages with information about the problems in the delivery of the package. Scammers, impersonating the Polish Post Office or other courier company, send a message about the need to supplement the delivery address or other shipping data.

After clicking on the link from such a message, the addressee is directed to a page that extorts data.

To protect yourself from phishing, it is worth paying attention to some important tips:

  1. Do not click in suspicious links or download suspicious attachments.
  2. Particular attention should be paid to URL addresses that seem suspicious or inactic.
  3. Each time verify the message sender.
  4. Do not provide your personal data, such as the ID card number, PESEL number or password.
  5. Do not provide financial data, e.g. card numbers, their CVC/CVV codes and expiration dates.
  6. It is worth installing anti -virus software and updating the operating system on a regular basis.

If you want to verify the received message, it should be sent to a free 8080 made available by CERT Polska. In response, we will receive information whether the message is real.

If you receive correspondence, in which the sender is impersonated to the Polish Post Office, please report it to CERT Poczta Polska, sending a message to "incident@poczta-polska.pl". This will allow us to warn other network users and report blocking a false page to the relevant services.

Remember that phishing is a serious threat to your privacy and security. Be vigilant and careful on the Internet!
