XXIV Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022 on the postage stamp
Poczta Polska introduced into circulation the emission stamp "XXIV Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022". The value, in a circulation of 144,000 pieces, has been sent to post offices throughout the country today.
The author of the project, Jan Konarzewski, presented in the central part a symbolic trace left by the skis in the snow, and next to the logo of the Polish Olympic Committee. In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska released the FDC envelope (on the first day of circulation), on which, next to the ski trail, there were symbols of seven gold Olympic gold medals - everyone who in the history of 23 starts in the Winter Olympic Games was won by Polish players.
- For many years, Poczta Polska with its stamps has accompanied all Olympic Games. We promote summer and winter competitions, always of course supporting our players. The latest stamp symbolically shows the most popular winter sport discipline among fans - ski jumping. Its innovative character and simple and clean graphics resemble the 50th anniversary of the acquisition of the first Polish "gold" in ski jumping by Wojciech Fortuna in Sapporo. It is a great honor to be able to accompany Polish Olympians once again in their struggle in Beijing. Additional joy is that our stamp will join in many philatelist folders to the previous several, honoring Polish ski jumpers - says Wiesław Włodek, vice president of Poczta Polska.
The winter games in Beijing will take place on February 4-20, 2022. The best athletes from around the world will compete in 109 competitions (15 disciplines). The Olympic struggles will take place on 12 arenas. The fight for qualifications for the Olympics in Beijing in individual winter sports is still underway.
Our representatives have been starting in the Winter Games since 1924, i.e. from the first historic competitions in Chamonix. Although seven Poles went to France, none of them managed to get a place on the podium. The number of white and red competitors grew from the games to the games, but there was still a lack of a disc for our country. For the first medal you had to wait for 32 years, i.e. for the competition in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The bronze was then won by Franciszek Gąsienica Groń, a player starting in a Norwegian combination. The most valuable medals for the Polish Winter Olympic Sport in 1972 in Sapporo was won by the ski jumper Wojciech Fortuna.
We keep our fingers crossed for white and red!
